La Policía Federal del Brasil movilizó al menos 50 agentes federales para un procedimiento en una fabrica clandestina de cigarrillos en el estado de Paraná, y en el estado de Minas Gerais. Allí fueron encontrados varios paraguayos viviendo en condiciones de esclavitud y produciendo cigarrillos falsificados de marcas paraguayas. Las autoridades brasileñas no dieron mayores detalles sobre los trabajadores y los dueños del establecimiento.
Los paraguayos eran reclutados en el Paraguay y llevados al municipio de San Sebastián del Paraíso, estado de Minas Gerais, donde eran mantenidos encerrados y sin comunicación. Vivian en condiciones inhumanas. O sea, eran esclavizados.
La Policía Federal no dio muchos detalles sobre el procedimiento, pero señalaron que decomisaron todo el equipo de producción, además tabaco en natural, y al menos 1,5 millones de cigarrillos que estaban siendo empaquetados.
Los paraguayos esclavizados falsificaban cigarrillos de marcas paraguayas como ser “Eight”, “Palermo”, y “San Marino”, que son producidos por Tabacalera del Este S.A., vinculado al ex presidente de la República, Horacio Cartes.
También falsificaban los cigarrillos “R7” que es una marca paraguaya, pero que piratea el logotipo de un medio de comunicación del Brasil.
